Simple to play The diatonic harmonica (blues harp) gives you a wide range of notes out of just 10 holes. You can get 20 notes by either blowing or drawing (sucking!) on them. You only have to move the instrument from side to side in front of your mouth to get to all the notes. It is one of a very few musical instruments where you do not have to use your fingers separately. Consequently, there is no special fingering to learn, just move the instrument a little from side to side and blow and draw to find your notes.
